The Florida Keys Reef Lights

The six Florida Keys Reef Lights (Fowey Rocks, Carysfort Reef, Alligator Reef, Sombrero Key, American Shoal and Sand Key) are only accessible by boat, but we've been able to view some of them from a distance.

Sand Key Lighthouse Facts • Location: near Key West • Year first lit: 1853 • Construction: square iron skeleton • Markings: red with black trim • Tower height: 120 feet

Sombrero Key Lighthouse Facts • Location: near Marathon Key • Year first lit: 1858 • Construction: octagonal cast iron skeleton • Markings: brown • Tower height: 160 feet

Alligator Reef Lighthouse Facts • Location: off Matecumbe Key • Year first lit: 1873 • Construction: iron skeleton • Markings: white with black lantern • Tower height: 136 feet
